About Khishango
Khishango is a tutoring marketplace connecting parents, students and qualified teachers in Cameroon. We are in a progressive launch phase — early access in a limited set of cities (Douala, Yaoundé, Bafoussam, Dschang, Garoua), with a staged national expansion based on supply density and local context.
We are not just an app — this product handles payments (Mobile Money, escrow), sensitive data (minors, verified teachers), and geographic expansion that must fit Cameroonian ground realities. This junior role works alongside a more experienced developer on less critical features, then gradually builds up to sensitive areas (payments, permissions).
What you will do
- Build well-defined features, with systematic review by a more experienced developer before every production release
- Contribute to interfaces first (public landing, web app) — access to payment flows and permission logic comes after an observation period
- Write unit tests for the functions you ship, with guidance at the start
- Learn and follow project discipline: additive Supabase migrations only, never retroactively edit an already-applied file
- Join architecture discussions to understand the reasoning behind decisions, even on parts you are not coding yet
- Gradually gain autonomy and responsibility through the trial period
Tech stack
- Frontend: Next.js (App Router), TypeScript, Tailwind CSS
- Backend: Supabase (Postgres, Auth, Row Level Security, Edge Functions), Server Actions
- Monorepo: Turborepo, shared packages (Zod schemas, business constants, services)
- Validation: Zod end-to-end (schemas shared between front and back)
- Tooling: Git, unit tests (Vitest/Jest), basic CI
You don't need to know everything
You do not need to master all of this before applying — a solid JavaScript/TypeScript foundation and a real desire to learn on a live product matter more than a checklist of technologies already ticked.
Who we are looking for
- 0 to 2 years of web development experience (internship, serious personal projects, or a first job all count)
- Solid JavaScript/TypeScript basics, some React familiarity
- At least one concrete project to show (even a personal project not deployed to production) — we want to see how you structure code, not just a diploma
- Real curiosity: able to ask questions rather than guess when a brief is unclear
- Rigour and care even on tasks that seem simple — code quality matters from day one, not only once you are "senior"
Nice to have (not required)
- Familiarity with Supabase, PostgreSQL, or any backend-as-a-service
- A first experience — even academic or personal — with a payment system or third-party API
- Bilingual French/English
What we offer
- Junior starting salary, with fast, documented growth based on skill progression (discussed in interview)
- Real mentorship: systematic code review, not just an automatic check — the goal is that you grow quickly, not only that the code passes
- Concrete, fast impact: what you ship is used by real parents and teachers within weeks, not buried in an endless backlog
- Workplace flexibility (hybrid Douala/Yaoundé)
- A real trajectory: developers who progress well at Khishango gain responsibility and autonomy quickly — this is not a frozen role
Hiring process
- Application: CV + link to a project, even a simple one (GitHub, portfolio, or personal app)
- Guided technical test (remote, ~2 hours): a small feature with support, questions welcome during the test — we evaluate how you reason, not your ability to work alone in silence
- Technical interview: review the test together and discuss your choices
- Final interview: culture, motivation, mutual expectations
